Y-kido is good mmm-kay...

Nick gave a free Aikido class last night at the Y. 2nd time in the last 6 months I've gotten to put a gi on and get my wrists twisted into entirely unnatural positions. I can't believe how sore my legs are. If I think I am going to survive any kind of future kung fu-ness, I've got to start doing some squats or something. Good class though. 6 guys including 2 barely teens. I have my doubts whether the kids will be back. I think the grown-ups got something out of it(seeing that there may be something to this...maybe...). I'm pretty sure they will be back for next weeks free class.

What encouraged me is I see in them the same thing I am experiencing. Where can you get some mat-time and some guys to mix it up with? Where can I learn some new techniques and have a chance to practice them? Why don't they have a fridge full of beer in the corner and better mats? We were all thinking this and I believe we need answers...

day one... billion and seventeen

I've never considered doing this(blogging) until THE idea hit me the other day. I need some exercize, some fun, some...thing, something to drink!

I used to study martial arts. Uechi Ryu as a teen. Tae Kwon Do as an adult. Aikido/Japanese Jujitsu most recently. I loved it. Loved it all. Loved sparring. Rolling. Good technique. Self defense. Take downs. My cup. UFC. Bruce Lee. Jet Lee. Jackie Chan. Spinning back kicks. Jab/cross/upercut. Sorry I kicked you in the head so hard. I can't believe you kicked me in the head so hard...

Can't really do it now. No place, close by, that doesn't charge alot of money. No place that will let me learn and practice what I want. It's all about the PROGRAM. Sign the contract. Earn your belts. Learn this form. All well and good but not really my style anymore. I want to warm up/stretch for a while then practice some kicks, learn a new technique, practice it a bunch of times until I say stop, work out on the heavy bag, strap on some gear and fight. Drink a beer before I go home. All with some guys who are into the same kind of thing. No kids, girls, pussies who are afraid of getting hit, curriculum, politics, religion etc... Is that so wrong?

How about start my own. Find a cheap warehouse type place. Buy some mats. Hang up a heavy bag and get about 15 or so guys who want a place to fight. Hello. Anybody out there?
